Legato's Private Lesson is suited for students looking to make significant progress on their instrument and have fun. We now offer In-Person, Online, or Hybrid lesson options. Our qualified instructors will tailor each lesson to the specific needs of each student. Are you looking to earn a top chair? Or are you looking to just pick up the violin? We have you covered….

Every week, over a hundred students enjoy in-person and online lessons with us. What really sets our lessons apart is we give the ability for students to showcase their skills at our many recitals and concerts, learn from professional, actively performing musicians, progress quickly and collaborate with their peers. Weekly Group Lessons

Group Lesson Fall 2026 Session with Legato Master Instructors!

Starting from week of 8/22 to week of 10/10


Instructors:
We provide the highest quality of instructors who have Masters or above music degrees. Our instructors are experienced and have taught for 15~25+ years privately, in group settings at DCS/public schools, community centers, and summer camps. We are hands-on, patient, attentive, and encouraging to each student.

Note: Not all courses and times may be guaranteed, depending on student enrollment.

7th Grade-Adult Course Offerings

🎼Dr. Haley’s Music Theory/Sightreading/Ear Training for CM & ABRSM🎼 

Beginner-Intermediate Saturday (2:00~3:00p.m.) - 3rd grade and up

Intermediate-Early Advanced Saturday (3:00~4:00p.m.)

🎸Guitar Class with Mr. Matt (7th graders up ~Adult)🎸

Friday Evening (time TBA)

Different parts of songs will be assigned to students to learn depending on their experience level. Beginner, intermediate and advanced guitar parts will be taught and played with the group. Students will learn chord progressions and strumming techniques, lead/melody playing, and basslines and riffs. The participants will learn these different parts of a song to be able to play full arrangements of popular songs as a group. We’ll go over a basic understanding of rhythms and scales that will be used for playing guitar. We’ll be learning music using tablature and a little bit of the treble for learning basic rhythms. Tablature and the Treble Clef will be explained if the students are not familiar with them. 

🎼Mr.Zack’s Electric Music Composition (7th graders up ~Adult)🎼

Saturday/Sunday Afternoon (Time TBA)

Composition is the foundational stage of electronic music production, where the initial ideas for the track are born. This phase includes brainstorming melodies, harmonies, rhythms, and sounds that will form the core elements of your piece. Mr. Zack will work on each student's interest and different genres of music his/her want to create. At the end of the class, students will have a presentation mini recital.

🎼Mr. Shay’s Jazz Theory/ Improvisation/ Composition (7th graders up ~Adult)🎼

Saturday Afternoon (time TBA)

In this class, we will discover the basic tools of jazz harmony, functional approaches, and implementing effective practice strategies with understanding “Jazz Theory” to help you become a confident improviser. Jazz harmony underlies a true understanding of jazz improvisation. In the last class, students will share their own improvisation and creativity.


Pre K - 6th Course Offerings

Keyboarding Class for Beginners (PreK~2nd, 3rd~5th, students will be divided by age), with Ms. Haruna Shiokawa-Mo

Monday 5:30-6:16p.m., Wednesday 5:15-6:00p.m., Saturday 9:45-10:30a.m., 2:00-2:45p.m.,/Sunday a.m. (TBD)

The Class is arranged for the Beginning to Intermediate level students who want to learn electric Keyboard (Piano). Students will be divided into two groups to alternate learning and playing both instruments. (will consider age groups). He/She will also learn the basic fundamentals of music notations and signs/terms. By the end of the class, students will be able to play some popular familiar and easy tune songs such as classical/ Nursery Rhymes/ Disney. Please ask for an instrument rental - with a reasonable rate only for Legato Students.


Violin Class for Beginners (PreK~2nd,2nd~4th, students will be divided by age), with Ms. Elissa Huang 

Monday or Wednesday 5:30-6:15p.m., 6:15-7:00p.m., Saturday 11:30-12:15p.m, 1:00-1:45p.m

The class is designed for beginning violin students who want to learn the fundamentals of playing the violin. Students will learn proper posture, bow hold, instrument care, and basic note reading while developing good playing technique. (Class time offerings may differ based on demand.) By the end of the course, students will be able to play simple, familiar songs, including nursery rhymes, folk tunes, and beginner classical pieces. Please ask for an instrument rental - with a reasonable rate only for Legato Students.


Cello Class for Beginners (3rd~6th), with Ms. Zhou Yi

Monday 6:00-6:45p.m./Tuesday 6:30-7:15p.m. (TBD)

The Class is arranged for the Beginning to Intermediate level students who want to learn cello. Students will be divided into groups to alternate learning such as proper posture and bowing (will consider age groups). He/She will also learn fundamentals of music notations and signs/terms. By the end of the class, students will be able to play some popular familiar easy tune songs such as classical/ Nursery Rhymes/ Disney.  Please ask for an instrument Rental - with a reasonable rate only for Legato Students.


Intro To Woodwinds (3rd-6th,7th~9th), with Mr. Shay Salhov

Monday 5:30-6:15p.m., Wednesday 5:15-6:15p.m., Saturday 11:15a.m.-12p.m., 2:00-2:45p.m.

In this class, we will explore the fundamentals of playing the 3 main woodwind instruments - the flute, the clarinet, and the saxophone. We will learn the correct assembly and operation of the instruments, basic sound production skills, correct finger positioning and posture, and basic notes and rhythms. We will also explore playing short pieces of music as a group and as soloists. Students will also be learning some fundamentals of music theory. Please ask for an instrument rental - with a reasonable rate only for Legato Students.


Fundamentals For Brass (3rd~6th), with Dr. Nick Hewett

Saturday 2:00-2:45p.m.

During the course, students of all levels will learn the importance of the foundations of good brass playing, effective practice, listening, and finding meaning in the challenges we face as musicians. We will discuss warm-ups and fundamentals, the importance of slow practice, and connect with listening as a way of not only finding purpose in our practice, but to develop one's own expressive capabilities. Students will also be learning some fundamentals of music theory. Please ask for an instrument rental - with a reasonable rate only for Legato Students.

Acoustic Guitar Group Class (3rd~6th), with Mr. Stephen Donato

Semi-Private Lesson

Legato's Semi Private Lesson is good for students who will enjoy taking lessons with siblings/ relatives/ friends in a fun setting. 

Parents can also see if their child is enjoying the instrument, and whether the instrument will be the best fit for their child. This lesson is only suitable from beginning to intermediate levels. Each student's progress will vary as the lessons progress.
